Mur's Bright and Bold Frame

This tutorial is not mine. The concept and procedure were created by my good friend Mur. All I did was make the html page and screen shots for her. I'm very proud to be hosting Mur's first tutorial on my site.

I hope we'll see many more in the future.

Letīs begin!

1. Open up the photograph you want to frame, duplicate it and close the original. Resize it if necessary so that the longest side is no larger than 400 pixels.

2. Go to Image>Add Borders. Add a 3 pixel border, symmetric and use your little eyedropper to select a color from your image.

3. Repeat Step 2, using a second color from your image.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 twice more for a total of 6 borders.

5. Select all, then contract the selection by 18 pixels. (Selections>Modify>Contract)

6. Invert the selection (Selections>Invert, then go to Effects>Plugins and locate Gregs Factor Output Vol. II>Pool Shadow. I used 50 for all values except Lightness which I made 128 and Intensity which I made 100. However, depending on your image, you might need to play with these values.

Select none (Ctrl+d).

7. Add another border, 65 pixels, symmetric, white. Then select all, contract the selection by 65 pixels and invert the selection.

8. Apply the Gregs Pool Shadow filter again, using the same settings as before (or whatever you prefer).

Select none.

9. Select all, contract the selection by 30 pixels and invert.

10. Go to Effects>Reflection Effects>Kaleidoscope and apply these settings:

kaleidoscope setting 1

11. Apply the Kaleidoscope again, EXCEPT this time, change the edge mode to repeat.

12. Invert your selection once more, then go to Effects>3D Effects>Cutout with these settings:

Cutout 1

13. Apply the Cutout effect again, EXCEPT this time, change the offsets to minus 3 (-3).

14. Invert your selection again (This is the last time, I promise.), then go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel with these settings:

inner bevel

Select none and sign your masterpiece.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

NOTE: Any image you make using this tutorial is completely your own property.
