**MAGIC LACE**

This is what we will be making.

Lace samples

We're going to make lace that can be used to decorate web images, or for cards and/or scrapbook pages for printing.

The only thing you will need for this tutorial is:
Corel Paint Shop Pro

Note: This tutorial can be done in either PSP8 or PSP9, although the screenshots are from PSP8.

Butterfly divider

Letīs begin!

1. Create a new image 300px by 300px, Resolution 200 pixels per inch.

2. Flood fill the image with white, then go to Effects>Texture Effects>Weave and use these settings:

Weave settings

3. Grab your Magic Wand, tolerance "0", Anti-alias checked,Feather "0"

Magic Wand

and touch any one of the black squares.

4. Go to Selections>Modify>Select Similar and use these settings:

Select similar settings

5. Go to Selections>Modify>Feather. Feather by 1.
Now hit your Delete key.

6. Invert the selection (Selections>Invert).

7. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel and use these settings:

Inner bevel settings

Select none (Ctrl+d)

8. Go to Effects>Reflection Effects>Pattern and use these settings:

pattern settings

This is what you should have:

uncropped lace

Although of course, yours will be larger and look much better (LOL).

9. Now grab your rectangle selection tool (be sure "Feather" is set to "0") and draw a rectangle around one of the groups of 3 lace strips. Try to pick something which has two matching ends. (you might have to zoom in to do this, I did.).
Hit Ctrl+C (copy), then paste as a new image.

Save your lace in PSP format as lacestrip_wide.psp.

(You can also export it as a tube, but I don't like to keep too many tubes in my files because the more tubes you have, the longer it takes Paint Shop Pro to load.)

10. Reactivate your original image and select none.
Now draw a rectangle around one of the narrow lace strips and repeat the copy and paste procedure in step 9.

Save this piece in PSP format as lacestrip_thin.psp.

Keep repeating this procedure until you've saved as many strips as you want. If you're very careful with your selection tool, you should be able to get 2 wide strips and 3 thin ones out of this image.

This lace can be colorized to any color, or for Black lace, duplicate your original, then go to Adjust>Negative Image.

That's it! Is this cool or what? Now you see why I call it....

**MAGIC LACE**

Variation: Make your new image 200px by 200px, Resolution 200 pixels/inch. Follow the tutorial as above. You will create a completely different looking strip....and again, if you start with a 400px by 400px, you will get a different looking lace. The sample above was created with laces made from all 3 sizes.

Variation 2:Try some of the PSP Artistic Effects on your lace strips. You'll be amazed at what you can come up with.

Hint: All the two-color black pieces in the sample had the Chrome effect applied to them.

Experiment! Have fun! That's what it's all about!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

NOTE: Any image you make using this tutorial is completely your own property.
